Mehret Habte Mehanzel is the Founder and President of Afro-Moves Learning Institute, a community based culturally centered platform, which provides programing to celebrate and empower children and families of African Descent. Mehret was born and raised in Eritrea and live in Sudan as a refugee before arriving in Seattle 32 years ago. She holds a B.A in Education and Cultural Understanding, from The Evergreen State College and an MSW from the University of Washington. For the last 32 years, Mehret has consistently continued to live her passion for Educational and Cultural advocacy and community empowerment. She has held many educational and social service position, including Family Support Specialist at Heritage Head Start, a program of the PSESD, co-founder and program developer at BSL, African Centered Family Educational Collective.
