Understanding Displacement on Families and their Children Part 1 and 2
Details
Through storytelling, the presenters take us through their journey and share stories of immigrant and refugee families who came to the USA for different reasons. The presenters share how they moved to the USA 26 years ago, one as an adult and the other as a child. Both presenters will complement one another, sharing their particular experiences in the settlement and transitioning to the new country. Both presenters will share their relentless experiences working in the community and supporting families and youth in their journeys to realizing their dreams. During this training, the presenters discuss the differences between refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and other forms of displacement. They will share the impact of exile on family and their children. They will share their experiences about their challenges in adjusting to the new community from both the first generation and their parents. They will address family members' roles and how the place they call home is affected. Throughout the training, we will engage in self-reflection, share personal experiences and stories, and discuss culturally responsive strategies that can help individuals and communities thrive.
