About

Pamela J. Oakes, Owner of The Profitable Nonprofit, has remained at the forefront of driving racial equity solutions across the globe.  She consulted with the top 100 corporations in South Africa during the post-apartheid Truth & Reconciliation period, conducting training workshops for government, corporate, community, and faith-based organizations in the areas of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Gender Equity, Employment Equity, Affirmative Action, Organizational Transformation, and Change Management.  Upon returning, Pamela worked for nearly a decade with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s  US Programs team working to create more equitable systems of promoting social mobility and economic development for low-income, underrepresented, students of color. 

Highlights of recent consulting projects include:

  • 2020 – Designed a participatory engagement strategy for a California community foundation on their multi-year $4.5 Billion initiative to implement inclusive economic initiatives.
  • 2021 – Facilitated the Seattle mayor’s Equitable Communities Initiative Taskforce to develop investment recommendations as part of a $100 Million city initiative.
  • 2022 – Designed and administered a program for King County Public Health to provide capacity building to 100+ emerging nonprofits and community-based organizations serving communities most impacted by racism.
  • 2023 – Developed a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Toolkit to guide the decisions of Washington’s mediation association and its 22 state-wide affiliate offices. 

Currently a Nonprofit Organizational Development specialist, Pamela is a certified state trainer for the Washington Nonprofit Association and the Nonprofit Association of Oregon.  Pamela attended the University of Washington majoring in Political Science and remains a champion for empowering women and girls in developing nations.
