From the Wisdom of Black Women: Creating the World Our Young Children Deserve

Black Women have historically and continue to play a pivotal, often overlooked role in U.S. social, cultural and political dynamics. This in-person symposium will center the professional and lived experiences of accomplished Black Women who will share with us their stories and insights about working in the field of early childhood. Through discussion, open dialogue, and collective exploration, we hope to both celebrate progress made and confront the inequalities that persist so that all children, particularly those from marginalized communities, can thrive in the world they truly deserve.

The morning session will feature a moderated panel discussion with Black women whose lived experiences and professional accomplishments offer unique perspectives on advancing equity and wellness in early childhood. Panelists will share their expertise, address real-world challenges (historical and present), and offer actionable insights through both their personal and professional wisdom. The afternoon sessions will offer participants the opportunity to engage with individual panel members for a deeper discussion of best practices for supporting young children and their families.

Participants will:

• Gain insights for promoting equity, healthy development, and wellness in early childhood.
• Explore best practices championed by Black women.
• Learn about systemic barriers and share success stories.
• Engage in Q&A to deepen understanding and foster dialogue.

This symposium is designed for anyone in King County who works directly with children prenatal-to-five years old seeking to enhance their knowledge, skills, and commitment to creating a world where young children are happy, healthy, safe, and thriving.
