Details
this is a four part series. you must attend at least 80% in order to receive a certificate of completion.
This workshop will address the misconceptions about "challenging behaviors" in young children, which are often influenced by outdated, biased practices in early childhood education. We will explore how these views are shaped by oppressive stories about different identities and work toward building more respectful and empowering relationships with children. In this session, we invite any adults in the lives of children to examine the social biases we’ve been taught through Western, individualistic values and show how we can adopt more inclusive, community-centered approaches in our work with children and families.
- Session 1: Case study- identify the challenging behavior, reframing the responsibility
- Session 2: Deconstructing behavior in the context of early childhood and oppressive stories
- Session 3: Strategy building; discipline vs punishment
- Session 4: Debrief on strategies; what worked/didn't work?
