Pregnancy is often portrayed as a time of joy and loving anticipation.  While pregnancy and motherhood can be filled with adoring discoveries and immense excitement, women can also experience significant mental health challenges as they navigate the journey of becoming a mother.  Maternal mental health problems are the most common serious complication of pregnancy and the postnatal period worldwide.  The impact of these illnesses extends beyond the mother and affects children, partners, loved ones, and communities.  This workshop session will support the attendees in recognizing common signs and risk factors of maternal mental health issues.  This workshop session will also focus on exploring how maternal mental health challenges impact young children and empowering providers to address maternal mental health concerns through a family-oriented approach.
