Frequently Asked Questions
- Anyone who has a passion for sharing knowledge within their community, facilitating training or interested in sharing wisdom and practice. We are prioritizing members of communities that have experienced significant service gaps or have not been well reached looking to gain additional tools for facilitation.
- Anyone with an interest in co-developing workshops/presentations in topic areas related to healthy childhood development, equity, and infant and early childhood mental health.
- Those who share and can demonstrate their understanding of Best Starts for Kids’ principles and values.
- Knowledge sharers who may be in different places in their professional development & career trajectory.
- People who speak different languages/dialects - those who are able to train in more than one language are highly encouraged to apply.

- EXTENDED Application Deadline - December 6th, 2024
- Applications will be processed - November and December 2024
- "Get-to-know" check ins with applicants - December 2024
- Acceptance letters shared - mid-December 2024
- Orientation and in-person kick off event - January 24, 2025
- Sessions starts in January 2025 and end in June 2025
- Closing in-person event - June 25, 2025
The duration of one cohort is six months.
- 6 large group sessions (all participants) of ~3 hours each.
- Including 1 in-person orientation/kick off and 1 in-person closing session ~4 hours
- 5 small group sessions (smaller cohort as assigned) up to 2 hours each.
- Monthly individual mentorship opportunities (as needed)
- There will be some individual work between sessions towards the final project of presenting/co-presenting a training
For Participants:
- Increased skills and confidence to facilitate workshops in their communities and beyond.
- Mentors and WFD staff will promote graduates for internal and external facilitation opportunities as appropriate
For Best Starts for Kids/Workforce Development:
- Increase the pool of highly diverse facilitators
- Promote opportunities for authentic community voice
- Contribute to Best Start’s mission to support every baby born or child raised in King County to reach adulthood happy, healthy, safe, and thriving.
- Community members at different places in their development and career trajectory are welcome
- Mentors can assist with developing the an applicant's workshops / provide guidance based on an applicant's vision
Community members whose first language is not English are welcome and interpretation will be available. Everyone is welcome!
Community-based facilitators selected for the program, can select to receive either release time for their agencies to allow them to participate or individual stipends. These are calculated at approximately $30/hr for time spend attending sessions.
This opportunity is designed a hybrid program. There will be an in person kick off and closing session. All other scheduled dates will be offered remotely via Zoom.
*Technical assistance is available to help you complete this application, if needed, and multiple languages. Best Starts has Technical Assistance providers who can provide assistance in Amharic, Arabic, Cantonese, French, Hindi, Kiswahili, Korean, Malay, Oromiffa, Spanish, Somali, Tagalog, Tigrigna, and Wolof, depending on availability.
