What is reflective practice?
Reflective practice is an opportunity for guided support in the ability to explore the thoughts, feelings, ideas, beliefs, motivations, and intentions behind the work as early childhood providers. In these brave spaces, participants will better understand themselves as service providers and explore the impact of systemic inequities, implicit biases, power and privilege, social justice, and generational trauma on their families and on themselves.

Transformation, Healing & Liberation in Reflective Practice
The application of reflective practice can bring meaningful experiences to families in the community and drive organizational change that promotes social justice. Strong reflective practice can center the healing capacities of all bodies and all relationships. With this in mind, the facilitators will work towards expanding on the following central principles:
- Reflective practice
- Intersectionality
- Opening doors
- Rupture, reflection and Repair
- Sustainability in the work
- Parallel Process
The participants will emerge from this learning opportunity with the ability to question systems of oppression, reflect on their intersection with them, and actively invite participation in change that will promote community and organizational wellbeing.
This 11-month cohort will include engaging workshops that will introduce topics that center reflective practice. Deeper reflection on these principles will continue in small groups that will be held monthly. The small groups will provide an opportunity to think deeply, engage in peer learning and community building.
Who can participate?
Supervisors, managers, and any providers who are willing to support peers who work with King County children (prenatal to five) and their families.
What can I expect from this training opportunity?
- Ten monthly 90-minute reflective practice groups
- Six 3.5-hour training sessions
- Active participation and consistent attendance in scheduled groups
- Mentorship from experienced facilitators from the community
- Certificate of completion for those who have attended at least 80% of activities
All activities will be provided virtually. Applicants must obtain approval from their supervisor to participate prior to the start of the training. If accepted into the program, a signed approval of support will be requested before participants are fully registered into the program Approvals must be received no later than January 13, 2023.

Monthly 90-minute group sessions will be scheduled at a later time.
Important Dates
- Last day to apply is November 15, 2022
- Up to 60 participants will be accepted with the possibility of a waitlist
- Participants will be selected by early December
- Supervisor approval must be obtained no later than January 13, 2023.
