The SCPA Health Consultation Program is dedicated to enhancing the health, safety, and well-being of children in childcare settings by providing expert guidance, resources, and direct support to childcare providers. Our program is built on the foundation of collaboration, education, and advocacy, ensuring that providers have the tools and knowledge to create a safe, inclusive, and developmentally supportive environment for all children, including those with special healthcare needs.

Najma Mohamed
NURSE
Najma is the health consultant nurse at the Supportive Childcare Provider Alliance. She provides health consultations to childcare providers and ensures they have all the information necessary to keep the families and children they work with safe and healthy. Najma is excited about the upcoming workshops and resources available to the providers.
Ahlaam Ibrahim
HEALTH COACH
Ahlaam serves as the Holistic Health Coach at the Supportive Childcare Provider Alliance. She supports childcare providers in their nutrition and wellness through community cafes and individual consultations. Ahlaam is passionate about helping providers find healthy routines that allow them to run their businesses and care for the children.
The SCPA Health Consultation Program provides comprehensive support to childcare providers, ensuring they have the knowledge, resources, and tools needed to maintain a safe, healthy, and developmentally supportive environment for children. Our services include:
1. Health & Safety Consultations
- One-on-one health and safety assessments for childcare providers.
- Guidance on meeting licensing regulations and preparing for inspections.
- Assistance with creating and implementing health policies tailored to each provider’s needs.
2. In-Home Health & Safety Visits
- On-site assessments of childcare facilities to ensure compliance with state health regulations.
- Identifying areas for improvement to prevent non-compliance issues before official inspections.
- Collaborative follow-ups to support providers in implementing necessary health and safety adjustments.
3. Managing Conditions & Special Dietary Needs
- Training on recognizing and responding to health emergencies related to diabetes, asthma, allergies, and other conditions.
- Developing individualized health plans for children with special dietary needs.
- Training on proper food handling and storage to prevent cross-contamination and foodborne illnesses.
4. Child Development & Mental Health Support
- Education on child growth, developmental milestones, and early childhood well-being.
- Training on behavior management strategies to support children’s emotional and social development.
- Resources for helping children navigate transitions, anxiety, and emotional regulation.
5. STARs-Approved Training Workshops
We offer DCYF-approved STARs training on various topics, including:
- Health & Safety in Childcare Settings
- Infectious Disease Prevention & Sanitation
- Supporting Children with Special Healthcare Needs
- Creating a Safe and Inclusive Childcare Environment
6. Comprehensive Developmental Evaluations & Screening Support
- Assistance with conducting child developmental screenings to identify potential learning or behavioral challenges early.
- Providing referrals to specialists for Comprehensive Developmental Evaluations when needed.
- Coaching providers on communicating screening results with families in a culturally responsive and supportive manner.
7. Resource & Referral Support
- Connecting providers with local healthcare professionals, early intervention services, and community health programs.
- Guidance on navigating Medicaid and DSHS health support programs for families in need.
- Access to bilingual health materials and culturally relevant resources to better serve diverse communities.
The SCPA Health Consultation Program serves family home childcare providers, with a strong focus on supporting East African, BIPOC, immigrant, and refugee communities and low-income and subsidy-eligible families. We are committed to ensuring that family home childcare providers have the necessary resources, training, and guidance to maintain safe, healthy, and inclusive environments. By addressing health disparities, language barriers, and regulatory challenges, we empower providers to navigate compliance while delivering culturally responsive care tailored to the diverse families they serve.
