Description:

This community of practice is designed to support King County Child Care Health Consultants, including community health workers, nurses, infant and early childhood mental health consultants, cultural consultants, inclusion specialists, nutritionists, and others providing coaching and training to child care providers in King County. Best Starts for Kids defines “child care providers” broadly, as inclusive of family, friend, and neighbor caregivers and providers in license-exempt and licensed child care programs.

Session topics may include:

  • Grounding in reflective practice

  • The cultural lens with which we see the world and working with providers and children of different cultures

  • Building partnerships and navigating difficult conversations and conflicts

  • Promoting inclusion in the childcare setting

Goals:

  • Enhance consultation services and strategies through cross-disciplinary learning across consultants

  • Enhance culturally responsive practices

  • Promote relationship-building between consultants

Structure:

  • One 2-hour session per month for 6 months, October 2025 – March 2026

  • CoP will include some brief content presented by the facilitator, draw on the knowledge of the group, and include opportunities for peer-to-peer learning through small group and large group activities, reflection, and discussion

  • Use of the new Child Care Health Consultant Networking and Resource Hub will be integrated into the community of practice

We strongly encourage active participation during each session.

***Attending the first session is strongly encouraged as it'll serve as a grounding session.***

To receive a certificate of completion, you must attend at least 80% of the total number of sessions.
